Jacques Gevril had been among the first Swiss watchmakers of distinction who developed important innovations for the field. In 1744, he built the first Repetition dial and in 1758, he became the first exporter of Swiss watches—crafting for the King of Spain. Friedmann decided that this illustrious history deserved an illustrious future, and he bought the brand. While the roots of this brand can be traced to the mid-18th century, it was in 2001 that a determined young entrepreneur breathed fresh life and excitement into Gevril. With family ties to the watch-making business, Samuel Friedmann was eager to break out on his own and build a brand of mechanical watches that would rival the finest in history and leave its mark for generations to come.
